Lush Accommodation: Marble Lodge - Barossa Valley

Name: Marble Lodge   Location: Barossa Valley

Marble Lodge is a grand and imposing residence built in 1914-15 and located on a large private Estate of 6 acres in the geographical heart of the small friendly village of Angaston, in a valley of the hills above the floor of the Barossa. Angaston is just over an hour’s easy drive north of Adelaide. Listed on both the State and Federal Heritage Registers as “one of the finest examples of a true Federation Home” the Marble Lodge home was built of local white, pink and grey marble to the 1913 design by prominent Adelaide Architect C. W. Rutt who also designed the beautiful Clock Tower building at nearby Yalumba Winery.

In 1995 a purpose built Bed & Breakfast Lodge was constructed in marble too, with its façade reflecting the style and grace of the homestead and a bygone era. The B&B Lodge was built in the gardens at the rear of the Homestead. Two spacious luxuriously appointed Suites have intricately hand carved French polished furniture, plush furnishes and antiques. Each Suite has a Queen Bed, and a mahogany sideboard with tea/coffee making facility and refrigerator. All rooms are furnished with original art works and hand knotted imported floor rugs. Open fires in winter, as well as whisper quiet split system air conditioning for all weather comfort, are provided in each room. The 2-room Magnolia Executive Suite has a large formal lounge-dine room with open fire, and a separate bedroom and en-suite. Camellia, is a Superior Queen Room with a magnificent hand carved French polished bed-head, a comfy couch in front of the open fire and an en-suite bathroom. High ornate ceilings and plush furnishings complete the very elegant and romantic rooms.

A huge two person spa bath in a separate bathroom, is shared though with absolute privacy, by each Suite. Free satellite television is provided in each Suite. For travelling guests High Speed Wireless Internet is available in each Suite for those with their own laptop computer, but for those without their own computer, a computer terminal is available in the B&B Utility Room, so travelling guests can read and send emails to family friends and work colleagues, as well as check the internet for forward accommodation bookings, tours etc. Rooms are serviced daily. Breakfasts are served by candlelight in the magnificent dining room of the adjacent Homestead. The wide verandah offers guests an enjoyable location to enjoy a glass of wine at the end of their day exploring the many wineries in the area.

The very quiet and private location (150 metres from the street) ensures absolute privacy while being just five minutes easy walk from the town centre. A handful of the best restaurants in the whole Barossa, are a short walk.
