Kangaroo Valley Area Guide
Located just two hours from both Sydney and Canberra, this hideaway has to be Australia's most beautiful valley. Named after the Kangaroo River that flows on the valley floor, this is a little slice of heaven on earth. With beautiful sub-tropical rain-forests, and the soothing sound of water never to far away, Kangaroo Valley is a unique destination for indulgence and escapism.
Get to know the valley from its namesake, canoes and kayaks are available to hide from Kangaroo Valley Canoes and self-guided or full canoe safaris are available. These are a brilliant way to see the valley and meet the beautiful birds and critters that call it home.
For some still water, Lake Yarrunga is the perfect destination. Motorized boats are not allowed on the lake, but don't let that stop you from exploring. Either in an old fashioned row boat, or modern kayak, or simply walking around the shore, this lake is perfect for exploring the temperate rain-forests of the region. For those with a love of fish, Lake Yarrunga is full of Australian Bass, Rainbow Trout, Macquarie Perch and more than its fair share of eels. Fishing equipment can be hired from local fishing shops, and guides are available to show you the best spots, or just trust your instincts and go it alone.
Once you've explored the valley floor, head up and get a different, but no less beautiful, view. The Man From Kangaroo Valley offers visitors the chance to saddle up and head into the hills. Horses and instruction are available for all experience levels, even complete beginners, essential safety equipment is also provided. Children (ages 10yrs and up) are also catered for on safe and sturdy ponies. The ride takes three hours, and will take you up Mt Moolootoo, for some amazing panoramic views of the valley.

The valley is one of the few places in Australia where premium Olive oil is produced. Kangaroo Valley Olives, grows some of the finest olives in the world, selling them on their own and as olive oil. You can visit the olive groves and the Cellar Door and sample some of the best olives and olive oil in the world. Tours and Cellar Door visits are by appointment only, but the owners are very welcome to guests.
To see all the food on offer in Kangaroo Valley, go on the Flavours of the Valley tour. This guided tour will take you, and a small group of other travelers, around the producers of Kangaroo Valley. You'll be amazed by what foodstuffs are produced in this little garden of Eden; from local wine and cheese, to fudge and toffee, to olives and chocolate, you'll meet the producers and take home samples straight from the farm gate.
Cooking classes are also provided by Flavours of the Valley, to teach you how to prepare and enjoy the fantastic Kangaroo Valley produce. The kitchen is in a family homestead, surrounded by bushland, with its own wood-fired pizza oven outside. After preparing a vast array of dishes, turn them into a massive tasting platter, and get a taste of everything you prepared.
